Forum Suggestions
I love this site so far and hope the population picks up so we can get more people in on these discussions.
I do have one major complaint with the forum, I wish there was a quoting option when replying, so we can reply to specific things people say. Its really hard to do that in the forums now, and I think when the forum population grows this is going to be a much needed feature to keep topics organized and easy to follow. Please implement this!
Another thing I would love you to check out is:
using this would allow us all to access this forum on the go from our smart phones. This is one of my favorite apps, and its always great when you have a spare few minutes to be able to jump into forums from your cell phone!
Thanks for the suggestion, I hadn't heard of that app before. I definitely do have plans to make the site more mobile friendly. First, our family has a big move coming up, but once that is done (May/June) I am going to spend a lot more time focusing on adding new features and enhancements to the site.
Once your move is over, Damien, it'd be great if you could also implement an extract of each new comment (& if poss each new private message) to go out with email notifications.
For example, when I get an email that says that there's been a response to something, there's no clue as to what the something is or what the response is about. As a result, we have no idea as to whether or not we want to go to the forum asap, sometime in the next couple of days, or this week...
It would also be great if the comment thread urls could have the first few words of the title added to them. I realise this can't be applied retrospectively, but I'd like to see it happen asap.
Good suggestions. Those things bother me too. I will put it on the list for post-move projects. I appreciate your desire to see things improve around here!
Oh! It already gives at least an extract in PM notifications (because I just received one :-) ).
So as far as PMs are concerned, all that needs to be added is either the title of the message it's responding to (if any), or the title of the thread, or words in the url that would help identification.
