Chi running?

Anyone have any experience with this? I took a half-day workshop over the weekend here in Chicago and it was interesting. Definitely need to change my form to combat my ITBS. Working on that and transitioning to zero drop (or close to it) shoes. I know Dr. Mark has some experience with this since I saw it on his website, but any other opinions are more than welcome. Thanks!

The Chi Running technique translates very well to minimalist and even barefoot running. We do promote less shoe, but at the same time advise gradual progress. If you have been wearing a heavily cushioned and/or stability shoe, then take one step down to a neutral shoe with a decent amount of cushioning and lower heel. As your technique improves, drop down another level. Spend lots of time walking barefoot or in five-finger type shoe to help re-condition the lower leg muscles and feet.

As you are transitioning you will notice that your stride length will shorten and cadence will become quicker and more efficient and take pressure off the ITB. Almost everyone I have worked with has felt immediate benefits by shortened stride length, increased cadence (85-90), and lengthening the spine (better posture and breathing capacity).

Thanks guys for your input. I will definitely take it slow. So many new shoes coming out this spring, so I will probably wait a bit to make a decision.

I learned it from the CD and it helped me learn proper midfoot stance and running form. Which helped after years of mostly heel toe landing. Another great CD for learning midfoot or forefoot stance running is called "Evolution Running". It has more high tech graphics and computer animation regarding running form differences and what works best to improve form. I found that I wanted zero drop or less heel toe ramp after changing to this style running.

I saw that GoLite has a range of zero drop shoes coming out. One called the Taralite appears modeled on the Tarahumara sandal, but with more protection. It looks interesting.
