Barefoot in the Kitchen signing in

Damien suggested I join the conversation over here. He said there were some other "moms on the board". Hello all other moms.

I also am a mom. Not a runner, not a marathoner. Just a mom who's barefoot in the kitchen. (Though in the winter I wear sheep skin slippers with warm socks, and long undies, sweaters.... it's cold in Maine.)

I'm also a blogger, homeschooler, photographer, homemaker, hiker and backpacker (those last two I thought pertained to the group of people hanging out here).

I LOVE hiking in my vibram 5 fingers and after three seasons and a few repaired seams I think I'm due for an update this spring. Though I've put in my official request (Damien handles all the shoe purchases around here) for a pair of Altras. I've been eyeing Damien's with envy.

So that's me. Would love to meet other moms who like minimalist.

Feel free to check out my blog where I talk homeschooling, creativity, homemaking, nature & the outdoors and family life in general.

PS. that's earth and kid friendly nail polish from Sun Coat in the photo.

Three cheers for non-running, barefoot, homeschooling moms! (Who "get" to spend much time in the kitchen. :-)

Renee, I've followed your blog for awhile now. I've really appreciated the words you've shared.

And keep us posted on the new shoes!

I'm a mom here, too. .... uh, actually I'm a mom no matter where I am but here I am.

We teach our kids here at home and have been making the transition to barefoot/minimal footwear for ~1.5 yrs. It's been a healthy transition with just enough variables to make it challenging. We are endeavoring to outfit all our kids (toddlers to adult sizes) in zero-drop footwear as minimal as possible and still fit the weather needs of Minnesota in 4 seasons w/o going broke in the process. A big challenge for a big family. We're making strides that way.

SarahK - Nice to meet you.

It is challenging to outfit children isn't it? Damien handles most of that in our family.

How many in your family?

I see you camp and hike as a family. We love that also!

Thanks again for commenting.

We're a pretty big crew.

About 17 yrs ago it was just The Man & I. Now we're a family with 13 children (8 boys, 5 girls), one at a time ~ 16mo apart.

Please send food. HA!

Sarah, I thought it was tough outfitting my 3 kids! lol

Love the blog btw. I have politely requested vibrams or something for my b-day this year. By the time the kids blow throught the yearly shoe budget, we will see what is left over for mamma. :)
