Just saying hi. Been running minimalist/barefoot almost a year now. I live in Hawaii, but currently deployed to Afghanistan. What else. I am a huge barefoot fan but looking to expand more into minimalist shoes because the Army doesnt like me being barefoot. Have several pairs of Vibrams, one pair of huaraches and merrell trail gloves on the way.

Yes they did. For awhile it was a gray area. Some places you could wear them, some you could not. When we got new faces in the Pentagon, they decided that any footwear that does not enclose all 5 toes in one compartment does not look professional. So they banned them. As far as other minimalist shoes, they are generally accepting as long as if someone glances at them they look like a traditional running shoe (no huaraches or sandals)
Welcome, great to have you here! Didn't the army just release something stating that they don't like FiveFingers shoes now too? How receptive are they to lightweight footwear in general?
