Zemgear combined with huaraches

I have been trying to figure out a solution to the problems I have had wearing my huaraches for hiking. Those problems are that because my skin chafes easily from the straps, I have to wear socks and because I wear socks, I get a lot of plant stickers stuck in my socks. I think I finally found a solution.

I got some of those Zemgear ninja booties. They work great. It's kind of a bit excessive on the sole now, because it's like you have the plastic sole on the Zemgears combined with the huarache sole, but it's actually not too bad for hiking if the trails are going to be really rough.

My homemade hiking huaraches are pretty thick-soled so I'm thinking that the booties would work also with my Invisible Shoes huaraches for when I don't need so much protective overkill but still want to keep the dang foxtails out of my socks.

I imagine this would work well when it is cold, too.

Just thought I would put that out there because in my searching to see if anyone had tried it, I couldn't find anyone who tried it.

That is an interesting concept. What stops you from just glueing the Zems straight to the sole and doing away with the sandal straps all together?

Well that's an idea. I guess I was just looking for sticker-resistant socks and a kind of modular system.

Here is a picture. Zemgear with my huaraches

I took them for a little walk today in the So Cal February sun. Most of the time this set-up was very comfortable but after a while I got a little bit hot. Could be too hot in summer. I think it works well. I will try this with my invisible shoes, too. I like mt Invisible shoes okay for running but for hiking I just need way less ground feel.

I had a similar idea about the boiled wool huaraches. Wool moccasin upper, huarache sole, glue...

Too many projects, so little time!

Duh, what a great idea for winter running instead of using Injini socks. I love my huarches but struggle with the cold and/or wet weather in winter. This might be a great alternative!

A stroke of genius! Huaraches are my preference when I need something underfoot, but I've had lots of snow and slush to deal with this winter and have ended up opting for more shoe than I'd really prefer in order to keep the trench foot at bay. I will definitely keep this in mind for next winter.
