I had the MT110s but had to give them up. The outside sole of the shoe was higher than the rest. I didn't seem to notice when running but after every run my ankles hurt. Did they level the shoe out for the winter version?

As far as I am aware, it is exactly the same shoe, but with the soft-shell upper - I don't think they changed anything with the sole. Most likely if the MT110 didn't work for you, this one won't either.

Interesting comparison between the 3. I have a pair of Vivobarefoot Offroad hi (which I bought last winter when Feelmax failed to put out the Kuuva on sale on their online shop) and I agree with you on the insulation issue. I did find an easy solution to it, I replaced the stock insoles with wool ones* and was able to hike and snowshoe in temperatures from -18ºC to 0ºC (above that I use the standard insoles). I used them for 4 months in the french alpes (where I live) with no complaints. Only other issue I had with them was that since they are leather I had to grease them after they were dry. I look forward to reading your full review on them.

Damien you may have told me this in the past and I can't remember what width are your feet? Why any minimalist shoe would be restricted to a D width is beyond me and for New Balance to do such is truly mystifying since the offer widths in others shoes. Actually it angers me... the width issue and the pricing. I am really tired of marketing crap. I solved my deep snow boot issue and are really happy with them but find I need less tall boots for many occasions. Was happy to see the NB Winters at first but now I am not taking the chance for that kind of money when I can buy these. http://www.aqualung.com/us/content/view/590

My wife Renee is currently testing out something similar called Snuggly Toes (http://www.snugglytoes.com/), but I haven't tried them yet. That is pretty amazing if you were able to take them down to -18 with just an insole!

You don't find that the bulkiness of a wool insole doesn't take-up too much room in the boot?

My feet are on the wider side, especially along the sides. I am somewhere between a 3E and a 4E. I know, it is disappointing that NB didn't do this shoe in other widths. Do you have a shoe store in your area that carries the regular 110? Maybe you could try it out and see what the fit is like, as the winter version is the same fit.

No stores with an hour sell shoes. With in an hour there is a few stores. Toronto is 3 1/2 hours away.

The wool insoles do take up a tad more space than the original but since my foot size is 41.5 and the boots are 42 (they don't make half sizes) it isn't an issue for me. Besides the wool insoles are so warm that I only use very thick socks for temperatures under -10ºC for everything else I use normal 2-3mm socks. You can even go sockless with the wool insoles with temperaures close to 0ºC...
